This course is designed to...“(engage) students in becoming skilled readers of prose written in a variety of periods, disciplines, and rhetorical contexts, and in becoming skilled writers who compose for a variety of purposes” (AP English Language and Composition Course Description). We will study a variety of texts –both fiction and nonfiction– which address a variety of topics. Students will examine how authors employ various rhetorical strategies-– how authors consciously design a text to reflect their intent. They will demonstrate complex analyses of writing, dialoguing with texts, and recognizing the various positions on social issues and formulating their own arguments, utilizing citation and acknowledging sources used. Thus, they will work to hone their reading and writing skills, as well as their ability to intelligently discuss text.
